Coach Fired Over TikTok Post About Puberty Blockers for Children
Freedoms Advocate is proud to announce that we are funding the case of Coach Tylor “Teej” Johannesson, a long-time volunteer football coach at H.J. Cody High School in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, who was recently dismissed after sharing a personal message on social media expressing concern about the medicalization of children with gender dysphoria.

Freedoms Advocate is providing support to LaSalle resident Jeremy Palko who was denied speaking at the Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) on how the board’s policies and regulations affect people of faith within the district.

Christian School Vs. Alberta Human Rights Commission
Freedoms Advocate provided funding for legal support to a private school – defending against an Alberta Human Rights complaint alleging that it discriminated against the complainants on the grounds of religious belief. The client school denied any such discrimination in its defence. Freedoms Advocate is pleased to report that a resolution has been achieved and that the dispute has now been settled on terms which are confidential between the parties.

A court case is underway in relation to a student who penned an open letter encouraging open discussions regarding race and racism who was disciplined by his university for non-academic misconduct.

In a recent quiet, but meaningful, victory for democratic accountability, an Ontario school board trustee’s efforts has resulted in the removal of a policy that severely restricted trustees’ ability to communicate with the public via the media.
Father vs. Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board
Freedoms Advocate is providing support to a Hamilton father with serious concerns about his daughter’s experiences in a Grade 2/3 class at an elementary school, alleging the school allowed repeated exposure of his seven-year-old child to non-curriculum political and sexual messaging.

Medical Professionals Freedom of Speech and Expression During Covid
Freedoms Advocate funded legal representation for medical professionals in Canada who were under threat from their colleges for treating COVID-19 reasonably and professionally, as well as for those who questioned COVID-19 policies and are under investigation on that basis.
Zaki v. University of Manitoba
In the case of Zaki v University of Manitoba, Freedoms Advocate is supporting Rafael Zaki, a medical student who was expelled the first time from the College of Medicine because when other students anonymously complained about him sharing his beliefs on social media, he refused to recant those beliefs. Zaki then went to court successfully, and his case was sent back for a new university hearing.

Freedoms Advocate is providing support to a proposed intervenor, RCAAN, as they seek to intervene in a constitutional challenge brought against the Saskatchewan Government by UR Pride Centre for Sexuality and Gender Diversity (“UR Pride”).
Defending the Right to Preach
Vancouver street preacher Steven Brown was charged with mischief and causing a disturbance for simply continuing to share a Biblical message on Vancouver streets. Freedoms Advocate provided support to Pastor Brown in defence against these charges.
Student Discriminated Against by Anti-Discrimination Services
Ms. Battista, a survivor of sexual trauma, is a woman of colour with a medical disability, who alleged discrimination when trying to access “equity services” on the university due to her pro-life creed.
Student Support of Jewish People on Campus
In the first half of 2024, Freedoms Advocate provided financial support to enable legal representation for a University student originally from Iran and living in Western Canada who is a practicing Christian.
